International Hope Research Team (IHRT)

  • The idea of an international research and study group on hope, optimism and resilience started last September, in Padova, during the International Conference “Vocational designing and career counseling: Challenges and new horizons”. At that time several researchers attending the conference discussed about the relevance of talking in these times about counseling, vocational guidance and future. All these constructs, in fact, involve hope, optimism and time perspective.
On the basis of participants interests, several research groups have been identified. One of these groups is interested in Hope, optimism, time perspective and resilience in disability (Ref. Teresa M. Sgaramella). There are several basic questions waiting for an answer in this area; for instance, it is not clear from the literature whether and to what extent disability affects hope, optimism, resilience and future time perspective. First of all there is the need to construct and validate instruments capable of measuring these constructs in persons with disability, especially in persons showing cognitive/intellectual disability. A second aim for the group is to analyse the role of hope, optimism, resilience and future time perspective on dimensions of psychosocial wellbeing, such as quality of life and self-determination, in young and adults with disabilities. A central interest for this research group is also on the relationship between mentioned dimensions and core career counseling constructs (see interests, work goals, adaptability) in persons with disability, with a particular attention to those who for the first time face the world of work. Results from these studies will provided the basis for implementing intervention programs. http://larios.psy.unipd.it/hope.php

During the one day workshops promoted by the LaRIOS Laboratory under the auspices of  SIO and GEO, a Joint Document for the promotion and recognition of the professional identity and training of career counselors was signed.
